Halal Certification Standards, Schemes & Certification Scope
Halal certification is not governed by one universal commercial checklist. Applicable requirements depend on the certification scheme, product category, facility and destination market.
Standards and Regulatory Frameworks
Depending on the certification objective, relevant references may include national Halal schemes, OIC/SMIIC standards, ISO/IEC 17065-based conformity-assessment principles, importing-country rules and buyer specifications.
For Indian export cases, businesses should review current requirements under the India Conformity Assessment Scheme (i-CAS) – Halal and applicable APEDA/DGFT conditions where relevant. QCI i-CAS information.
Scope Categories
- Food and beverages
- Ingredients, additives and processing aids
- Pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals
- Cosmetics and personal care
- Cleaning and household products
- Packaged and pre-packaged products
- Hospitality and food service
- Other eligible products and processes subject to scope review
Destination-Market Acceptance
Some jurisdictions maintain their own approved or registered Halal certification-body lists. A technically valid certificate is not automatically guaranteed to satisfy every import regime. Always verify the latest destination-country requirement before shipment.
